Finally, today is the day!
After 2 weeks of wearing eyeglasses to work and drive, I am scheduled for the screening for a Lasik procedure. Hopefully, after the screening, I will be fit to undergo the actual procedure.
My not perfect vision was inherited from my parents. All my siblings wear glasses too! My eyes have been defective since I was in highschool!
I was wearing glasses before, but it is so hard to move. You can’t do physical activites because your eyeglasses might fall or worse, a ball might hit my face and break my glasses!
So I resorted to wearing lenses everyday since then. I can even put my contacts without looking in a mirror. Eyes get dried up and can’t breathe because the contacts cover them. At night, when you are already tired and just want to go to bed, you would have to remove, clean and store them properly.
What pushed me to have a procedure done now? I feel like the contacts I wear gets stucked to my eyes even if I want to remove them already. Feels like something is being ripped off my eyes.
Fortunately, my cousin referred me to Shinagawa Lasik, she had her procedure done last year. Just like me, she’s always had contacts as well. And now, she’s free of them!
Opened at 9am. Arrived 830am. Started my screening around 930am.
There are a few steps for the screening.
First. Usual checking of the eyes with 3 machines.
Second. Manual checking.
Third. Went into the dark room. Checked my eyes with about 3 or 4 machines.
Fourth. Stingy drops. 3 drops at that! First drop. Wait 5 minutes. Then second drop. Wait another 5 minutes. Third drop. Wait for an hour.
After an hour. Checked my eyes again with 1 machine.
I waited for about an hour to get my name called for the last step of the screening process.
Fortunately, Shinagawa is ready for the patients waiting. There is WIFI, TV and a water station in the lounge. Patients don’t get bored easily. Oh, couch is comfy also!

Dr Dinglasan, Head of Lasik Department, checked my screening results and my eyes and gave me the go signal to have the procedure done.
Talked to my Consultant and paid for the procedure.
I had lunch then it’s waiting time again. We have to shuttle our way to the Ortigas clinic because the machine here in Enteprise Makati is under maintenance. I will be going to Ortigas later about 3pm.
Excited! Glasses and Contacts Free in a few hours!
We left Makati around 3pm and arrived at the Ortigas clinic at about 345pm. Waited for Dr Dinglasan to arrive around 5pm.
After the Doctor arrived, we were called to start prepping for the procedure.
We washed our faces. Then we were lead to a room where we waited again. This time we were given our post op kits. Then asked to wear operating gowns over our clothes and asked to change into inside slippers.
The post op kit consisted of our goggles, antibiotics, and medicine drops.
Nurse explained the use of our post op kit which we will use for 1 week.
Goggles to wear when we are awake. Patches for sleeping. Drops every 3 hours with interval of 2 minutes for the steroids and the anti infective and 1 hour for the lubricant. Mefenamic for pain or discomfort.
After the procedure, there will be a post op check up tomorrow. The next one’s after a week. Then a month, 3 months and 6 months. After which, it will be the doctor’s call already.
Nurse already put anaesthesia on our eyes. I can feel the numbing already. We are 9 here in the prep room and I am just waiting for my turn. Then 15 minutes of procedure, give or take.
It was a long wait again. Felt my stomach growling but left with no choice. This is the most important part of the day.
Finally, I was called for the procedure. Laid down on the operating table. Dr Dinglasan has relaxing music playing and he was even singing. Atmosphere’s relaxed.
The only part that was painful was the eye clamping. The tool that makes our eyes open. Other than that, it’s all flashing and bright lights. Plus the total darkness. 15 minutes tops, I am done.
Eyes blurry and fresh from the procedure. Wore my goggles. Sent home finally, almost 12 hours in the clinic!
When the last drop that was put dried up, can’t open my eyes anymore. There was a tingling feeling, not painful, it’s like something caught in your eye.
Put my patches on and I slept on it.
Woke up so early. Removed my patch and yes, I am 20/20 again!
Feels so good! Definitely a good investment!
